I recently had the pleasure of visiting Laura and her TUIN Truss Log Cabin which she and her family are using as a fantastic authentic Garden Games Room & pub.
The Truus Log Cabin is a very apt cabin for this particular use. This is because of its size, log thickness and authentic style.
The large open internal area has been utilized into different sections. There is a space for darts, pool, bar, and pub style seating.
Upon walking into the Truss Garden Games room, I was immediately hit by its warmth. With the 45mm cabin logs, double glazed windows and insulated roof, the cabin holds the heat in incredibly well. Perfect for the cold winter months.
Laura mentioned that one of the best things about their games room log cabin is that it’s a separate space from your main house. This means that you can entertain without worrying about disturbing the rest of your household. It’s also a great option if you have teenagers or young adults who want their own space.

Garden Transformation
As you can see from the comparison, Laura’s family put a lot of effort into transforming their garden space.
A raised patio area can be a beautiful and functional addition to your garden, providing a comfortable outdoor space for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying your outdoor surroundings. With proper planning and construction, Laura created a raised patio area, providing years of enjoyment for her and her family.
When the family were thinking about a patio area for their garden they considered its:
Location: When selecting a location for their raised patio area, they considered factors such as sun exposure, drainage, and accessibility. They ensured the area was level and could accommodate the size of patio they had in mind.
Materials: There are many options for building a raised patio, including wood, stone, concrete, and composite materials. They chose materials that complemented the style and aesthetics of their home and garden, and that will hold up well to outdoor conditions.
Seating and Entertaining: They thought about how they will use their raised patio area and planned for seating and entertaining. They thought about a built-in seating or a dining area, and left leave space for a BBQ or outdoor kitchen if desired.

Laura’s Dad creatively designed and built their bar and worktop.

Made from the same 44mm interlocking spruce logs we use for our cabins. It measures 180cm long, 72.4cm wide, and 127cm high giving you the illusion of being in your local pub, as well as giving you plenty of space to show off your drinks collection.
Immersion
Laura opted to have her Truus Log Cabin Immersion treated.
Immersion treatment, also known as dip treatment, is a method of treating wood with preservatives to protect it from decay, insects, and other types of damage.
The immersion process uses immerses agents in a diffusion. All the parts of the log cabin are treated including the windows, doors and roof. After immersion the cabin is allowed to air dry and is then re-packed.
Immersion treatment is a rot proof treatment, not a weatherproof treatment. Immersion treatment does not have moisture regulating properties and your building will not be weatherproof without a final treatment. Laura opted for a weatherproof treatment as well, so the immersed timber was left for a few weeks to ensure the wood was completely dry before applying the weatherproof treatment.
Our log cabins can be treated in green, silver grey or brown. Laura chose brown to suit the cabins’ surroundings.
Treatment
The Truus Log Cabins was also treated with a timber treatment which comes highly recommended by us at TUIN, and that is Sikkens.
Treating a log cabin with Sikkens is a great way to protect the wood from weathering, UV rays, and other environmental factors. Here are the steps to follow for treating a log cabin with Sikkens:
Clean the surface:
Before applying Sikkens treatment, it’s important to clean the surface of the log cabin to remove any dirt, grime, or old coatings. Use a pressure washer or a scrub brush and a mild detergent to clean the logs thoroughly.
Sand the surface:
After cleaning, sand the surface of the logs to remove any rough areas and create a smooth surface for the Sikkens to adhere to.
Apply the Sikkens treatment:
Stir the treatment thoroughly before use and apply it to the logs using a brush, roller, or sprayer. Be sure to apply it evenly and avoid over-applying to prevent drips or runs. It’s best to work in small sections and complete one log at a time to ensure even coverage.
Allow to dry:
After applying the Sikkens, allow it to dry completely before applying a second coat. The drying time will depend on the temperature and humidity, but it typically takes 24 hours.
Apply a second coat:
Apply a second coat of Sikkens using the same method as the first coat. This will provide added protection and durability to the logs.
Overall, treating a log cabin with Sikkens is a great way to preserve the natural beauty of the wood while providing long-lasting protection against the elements.
We also recommend the brands Sadolin & Kingfisher. They are on the pricy side however treatment is a case of you get what you pay for.
