Tuin’s Trip To Tuindeco 2019

Recently a few of my co-workers in Tuin, as well as myself, traveled to Holland again, to see Tuindeco and hear about their developments over the past year. And once again, I was blown away with their developments every year – Some of which I will talk about in this blog post.

It started off with the usual ferry ride and the drive to Coevorden, and although the ferry ride was bumpy- I was lucky to catch the long straw, which allowed me to read during the whole journey. Once we got there, we were told the recent developments within Tuindeco- As well as being able to view their latest showsite design.

Every year Tuindeco grows, especially in a physical form, for example this video below shows their latest build project of two new warehouses. Both are massive in size, allowing them to build up stock in these quieter winter months- The development of these warehouses are planned to be finished early next year, ready for the spring and summer season.

And even with their developments of new warehouses, their current ones are still striving – With various techniques put into place to ensure the quality standards of our products.

Larch Timber Drying

Industrial power fans have been placed around the Larch timber in order to keep them nice and dry in the rainy months – Preventing the signs of weathering and the possible chance of mould growing.

Edelweiss Log Cabin Packaging

Along with new packaging styles that are being tested, such as this crate-like structure around the Edelweiss log cabin package, hopefully reducing the probability of the log cabin getting damaged during transit.

During our drive around the Tuindeco warehouses, we spotted something in the distance- So bright that no one could miss it… It turned out to be a Tuindeco minivan, a promotional vehicle for their 25 year anniversary, and although the weather doesn’t match the brightness of this minivan- It certainly brightened up our day!

After this tour we all went our separate ways in order to do the tasks we came here to do – My task was all about their show site. Armed with a 360° camera, I was able to capture and put together a 360° showsite walkthrough. Unfortunately the weather was cloudy and the showsite was in the middle of upgrading for the new season- But there is still plenty to see, you can find and use the walkthrough on our Tuin in pictures page! Along with a walkthrough of our showsite that’s based in Brooke, Norfolk.

What is envious about the Tuindeco showsite is the amount of space they’re able to use, in fact, they even had to room for one of our longest buildings at 14m – The Slane Log Cabin! Stunning in person, but I also captured a 360° walkthrough of the cabin, which can be found under the video tab of the product page.

Alongside this giant of a Log Cabin – They also a selection of our Larch Garden Buildings. One of each roof type in fact, along with a sneak peek at the new furniture additions for next year’s catalogue:

Apex Roof Larch Garden Building

A traditional style for roof type, Our Larch Apex roof garden building range starts first with the basic structure and then various modules can be added to it to create walls, infills, extensions etc.

Asymmetrical Apex Roof Larch Garden Building

A roof type inspired by barns – The asymmetrical apex roof larch timber comes from well managed forest and is one of the most durable softwood species. It has a very warm colour and texture.

Pent Roof Larch Garden Buildings

Or for something more modern in style – The pent roof larch garden buildings. Available in two cladding colours: standard Larch and pre-painted black Larch

Though admittedly, I did get distracted a few times…

Tuindeco Dog

But who wouldn’t be? Nevertheless the the trip to Tuindeco was a success in my eyes, with plenty of pictures taken plus the creation of two 360° walkthrough tours, the consumption of Bitterballen and dog petting- It’s hard to list that as a fail. Feel free to let us know your opinion of the new walkthrough tours by commenting on this post.

Tuin’s Trip To Tuindeco 2018

Hello everyone, Megan here!

Some of us here at Tuin have recently taken a trip across the water to Tuindeco, who are based in Coevorden, Netherlands. The aim for my attendance to this trip was to learn more about Tuindeco and our business practices, so that I can gain insight as to what made them become one of the biggest competitors in the Log Cabin industry.

So, after the ferry trip that consisted of napping, eating Bitterballen (Highly recommended by the way) and a drive to Coevorden, we arrive at the office of Tuindeco. Where we’re met with a large showsite and friendly employees, including the owner of Tuindeco. We were soon into discussion of the actions they implemented over the winter to ensure a successful collection of cabins ready to sell, which I’ll show you in a moment.

Winter can be a rough time in this business, with the sawmills running low of wood and struggling to supply it with the demand of companies wanting to restock their Cabins ready for the busy summer period. Tuindeco came up with a process that allows them to get their supply of stock, as well as keeping the sawmills going with jobs during the hard period- This starts with them buying an area of trees to be sent over to the sawmill, and hiring them to cut them into the required logs. This may be an expensive way about doing this, but buy supplying our own wood to the sawmills we are then able to get a consistent supply of Log Cabins as well as keeping the workers in the sawmills in work during the quiet winter months. Allowing a fairly win-win situation for both parties.

During this talk, they often mentioned about how much stock they had- making me believe that they may be over exaggerating a little… But I was soon proved wrong when we were taken around their warehouses. Their warehouses are spread across the town of Coevorden, with plans for more land into consideration. The warehouses closest to the main office were filled with Log Cabins, and, well I’ll let the images I took speak for themselves.

There was hundreds of Log Cabins, all organised in their allocated sections and stacked as high as it was safe to. These pictures show just some of the many Log Cabins within the warehouse, as well as a large section dedicated to our Garden Furniture range – all ready for a quick dispatch to our customers.

There was also a noticeable difference with the Log Cabins this year regarding packaging, a shrink wrap has been implemented in order to protect the cabins in order for them to be stacked as high as they are, as well as reduce the chance of water leakage into the package.

After looking around in amazement at these two large warehouses, we were then taken to another area of Coevorden where there was two more large warehouses- These ones were filled with our timber supplies:

If only I could share the smell of all of the fresh timber inside those warehouses, I was also delighted to see the regulation stickers on the timber as shown below. All of our timber comes from sustainable sources, trusted and approved by the regulators such as FSC, PEFC, KOMO and Indonesian Legal Hardwood.

Though it may appear like a lot of timber just stacked up on top of each other, there is care put into the layout of the warehouses, with fragile items such as glass carefully stored near the corresponding items that they go with (for example, glass table tops).

After seeing all of this, as well as hearing plans for them to expand even more- I am more convinced that Tuindeco will be able to successfully supply the demand of their hundreds of retailers across Europe, including us.

To finish off the day, I drifted off from the business talk to explore their showsite- Much bigger than ours and stocked with some new products in the 2018 range. Here are just some of my favourite products I took pictures off, you may find more updated across the site to the corresponding product pages.

At first, I wasn’t too sure when I saw the Wicker Picnic Range in the catalogue- but after seeing them in real life, they were spectacular. They’re comfy and appear to be durable for years of use – as well as being unique in their design, there aren’t many wicker/rattan picnic sets in this style on the market. Made with Aluminum framing to prevent rusting, the rattan braiding was done straight over the framing – Made from a synthetic material in order to make their maintenance pain free.

The Oakland Wicker Lounge Set

The Oakland Eight Piece Wicker Lounge Set has been tested and approved by myself for comfort levels. A great addition to any garden seating area.

Larch DIY Veranda

This Larch DIY Veranda was on our list for quality checking before preparing to list it for the UK market. With a polycarbonate roof available as well as the sliding glass panel – It certainly impressed us and hope to impress our customers too. Keep an eye out for when this will be listed in the near future!

Pardon the rain in the next two photos, but the newly added entrance verandas, found in Shepherd Hut Accessories, also looked very impressive to the eye – A great way to personalise your Shepherd Hut and make a more inviting entrance to your Garden Office or Summerhouse!

And these are just to list a few of what’s within their showsite – Overall, I can confirm that this was an impressive tip, from looking at the new catalogue products as well as gaining more insight of Tuindeco’s business practices- I hope this was insightful to you as well!

Tuin Online Advertisements

As part of my job role here at Tuin is to assist with our online marketing and advertising- This include re-targeting adverts. You may have noticed them on websites on the sidelines of blogs or on banners, our adverts are targeted to: those who share similar interests with our current market, location compared to our show site, if you have visited our website or if you have been actively searching for products similar to what we sell.

Though, understandably, this can get annoying to see all the time- So here are some ways that you can stop seeing our ads if you wish not to.

Google Adverts

Tuin Display Advertisement Example

If you wish to stop seeing these adverts, click on the top right corner showing an X. When doing that, Google closes the app- And from there you can have the option to tell report the ad to Google, followed by which statement out of the ones provided most suites your situation. This is helpful to Google for their machine learning process used for advertisements.

This also applies for text based adverts too, following the same process.

Facebook Ads

We also advertise on Facebook too, aimed towards people who have similar interests to our current market, though if you’re not interested you can easily stop seeing these. So to begin you just need to click on the three little dots on the top banner of the ad, then you’re given this dropdown menu.

Tuin Facebook Advertisement Example

From there you can pick which option suits your situation more. If you’re interested in products that you’re being advertised but feel like you’re getting bombarded with ads – You can hide the ad to see less of them. You can also save or hide product-specific ads, for if you like a brand but you’re not interested in all of their products.

If you select the ‘Report Ad’ option, you’ll be given another list of potential reasons as to why the ad would be inappropriate, once you find the one that’s most appropriate you can select it and hit done.

Facebook Advertisement Reporting Example
I hope this helps with dealing with online advertisements. Please know that we don’t mean to spam you with these adverts- It is Google/Facebook who decides the right candidates to receive the advert and we don’t have much control over it.

Tuin Junior F.C.

Hello everyone,

So as some of you may or may not know, Tuin sponsors the Heigham Park Rangers Pumas Under 12 Football Club. And their coach has just given us an amazing update on their performance in the ongoing League- The Under 12’s Division 2!

“Following on from our great 5-1 win in our first game of the season against Waveney Wildcats, we beat the local team to where we are based Brooke Juniors 6-2 in a good mannered game.”

We’re so delighted that our team is doing well already- and in well manner!

Their following game resulted in a 2-1 win against the Bohemian Tigers, only just scoring their winning point in the second half. With their most recent game ending in a fantastic 11-2 win!

Unfortunately this weekend they gained their first loss- against the current cup holders, Ormesby Junior F.C at 6-3. Even so they’re still determined for training and improvement! Lets give them our support shall we?

We wish you all the best of luck for the rest of the league!
