Contacting Us

We work a little diffferent to other companies and a lot of our staff work 'flexibly' often from home or on their travels and often out of hours.  Our main UK office is in Norfolk and is staffed during the hours of 0900 - 1700 Monday to Friday.

Email is always the quickest form of contacting us day, night or weekend.  Many of our staff will respond to emails but aren't always available via phone and can often deal with urgent queries quicker than our phone staff whom may already be engaged.  We often answer emails out of hours.  During normal working hours our target is within 15 minutes, out of hours it's usualy within an hour.

We have a small site at our main office and maintenance workshops where we display a small selection of our products.

We are always here to help - perhaps the Dutch way of doing business has rubbed off on us.

Timber Regulation and Tuindeco

FSC log for Tuindeco

PEFC, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, is a worldwide non-profit, non-governmental organisation for the promotion of sustainable forest management.  Its ultimate goal is the correct management of all forests in the world.  By certification of forest management, forest proprietors can demonstrate that their forest management is according to PEFC A certified forest can yield PEFC certified timber. Further along the chain companies that are certified Chain of Custody can process this timber into PEFC certified products.  For more information, see the PEFC International website: www.pefc.org or PEFC Nederland: www.pefcnederland.nl

FSC, the Forest Stewardship Council, is an international non-profit organisation, founded in 1993, in order to promote ecological, socially-conscious and economically sound management of the world’s forestry: FSC promotes sound forest management. For more information, see the FSC International website: www.fsc.org or FSC Nederland: www.fscnl.org. The 10 FSC principles for sound forest management can also be found here

Why are PEFC and FSC successful?
By their working methods there is a balanced consideration of diverse interests – environment, man and economy. As hallmark model (with a consistent, transparent system of standards and certifications) they are supported by all major environmental and developmental organizations in the world, trade unions and international business community.
How does it operate?
The nucleus of FSC operations is the provision of good management of all tropical and non-tropical forests. By the FSC hallmark system the forest proprietors adhering to the agreements are can be discriminated from poor managers of forestry. In addition, FSC provides recognition of its timber to the end user. The end user can be assured that this timber originates from well managed forests, since it has been followed through its entire trade chain. The instrument that is used for this is certifi cation of both forest management and the trade chain. Certifi cation is performed by one of the independent organizations accredited by FSC for this.  PEFC, however, has not made any requirements for forest management in its own right, but contains more than 250 requirements from the international Multi-stakeholder Initiative. These internationally formulated criteria have been endorsed by 149 countries. In addition to economical and ecological requirements the PEFC also proclaims social requirements for social working standards (International Labour Organization). The result must be that we can rightfully say that ‘FSC or PEFC is only FSC/PEFC when it is labelled FSC/PEFC’.
Assessment of the trade chain
Forest proprietors, timber traders, environmental groups and representatives of the local population are to cooperate to improve forest management worldwide. One of the most important objectives is to let timber production continue cost-effectively and by ecological and socially-conscious methods. Both PEFC and FSC have set up individual worldwide standards for forest management in combination with their hallmarks. These standards, which will be specified in each country or region, are based on PEFC’s and FSC’s own principles for good forest management as has been employed by them. As long as forest proprietors abide to the PEFC or FSC standards, their forest can be certifi ed. Independent inspectors supervise the adherence to the regulations.
Tuindeco and FSC - PEFC
Tuindeco will make a contribution not to break the trade chain ‘Chain of Custody’ (CoC);.
It can be established that PEFC or FSC timber delivered by us to the end user is guaranteed PEFC or FSC timber and complies with their requirements.
Tuindeco will do its utmost to avoid wood and wood fibres from following categories:
a. Illegally gathered wood
b. Wood that is gathered while violating traditional and civil rights
c. Wood that is gathered from forests where ‘high conservation values’ are being threatened by management activities
d. Wood that is gathered from forests being transformed into plantations or where the area is going to be used by other purposes than a forestation
e. Wood from forests where genetically modifi ed trees have been planted
Hardwood certified
The KOMO hallmark
The Komo hallmark is used by the SKH (Stichting Keuringsbureau Hout: The wood inspection agency foundation).
This foundation’s task is to issue quality certificates and to supervise the impregnation of wood under high pressure by using an anti-fungal,
insect-repellent and life-prolonging product.  Its objective is the certification of quality control in the timber industry during the process from basic material to fi nal product according to specified guidelines. The guidelines for wood sustainability include the requirements to which impregnation agents, processes and products should comply.  Tuindeco always performs its impregnation processes according the latest guidelines.
A KOMO certificate warrants an ecological sustainability of the wood resulting in a well impregnated product. You can recognize the KOMO certificated Tuindeco products by the KOMO logo within the catalogue.
Properties of the timber:
Timber is a natural product. Drying can cause one-sided distortion. Additionally round wood can develop hair cracks.
Both developments will aggravate with the continuation of drying. Moist absorption will counter the one-sided distortion and hair cracks will close again.  Properties regarding construction and quality will not be influenced by any of these processes.  Please consider the shrinking and expansion of wood in dry and wet periods.
When purchasing hardwood products, Tuindeco pay special attention to its legal origin being sustainably managed forests.  Our hardwood is supplied with a SICS certificate, provided by Sucofindo International Certification Services, which is an Indonesian government agency that manages and supervises the exportation of legal and sustainable produced hardwood.
